Big hills in your way? No problem.
With the Optibike, you have the definitive advantage in hill climbing that “other” electric bikes simply cannot offer. The secret is in the Optibike exclusive patented Motorized Bottom Bracket (MBB) that allows both your legs and the motor to work in parallel and take advantage of the bikes' gearing system so you can climb hills like Lance. Want to read a more technical writeup on why the MBB is the best? Go HERE.
But, these days talk is cheap. Here is the proof:

King of the Mountain (Pikes Peak climb)
Using the patented MBB, the Optibike is the only electric bike to race to the top of 14,110ft (4301m) Pikes Peak in Colorado! That is a 7000+ ft vertical climb over 19 miles in about 1.5 hours! Watch Optibike Marketing Director Craig Taber (Read: Not a cyclist) ride to the top:

Not to be outdone, Optibike 800Li owner took a vacation from his Forest Lake, MN home to ride his Optibike up Mt. Evans, the Highest Paved Road in the US topping out at 14,264 ft!! (4,348 m)
This is Phil’s account:
“There were many firsts here. This was the first time I had ridden in Colorado, my first time to ride up a mountain, or on a mountain for that matter, the first time above 12,000', the first time using the video camera, and the first ride with the new bicycle [Optibike]. Doubt about the performance of the bicycle never crossed my mind. It was only in hindsight that I realized all the firsts of this ride. The bicycle was absolutely magnificent, very clean in its operation, very smooth in its shifting and motor power, and absolutely impeccable handling, no shimmies or wobbles. Just clean tracking despite the heavy duty cracks in the pavement. Ascent time: 1 hour 59 minutes and 29 miles exactly. Descent, 1 hour and 4 minutes.
Back home I only have two rides in so far, the longest 36 miles due to rain interference. It works perfectly.”
Thank you very kindly to the whole Optibike team,

Read about what other Optibike customers have to say about climbing hills around town:
“I just finished putting the second bike together this afternoon. The bikes are AWESOME!" Marsala’s first ride was great and she loved it as well (see photo of her maiden voyage). "This afternoon I went to try the steepest hill around here. It’s a paved trail that is so steep I was not sure the Optibike would be able to make it back up. I was prepared to take a longer route home if necessary. The brakes felt so good going down, the best I’ve ever experienced. As I started back up the hill about half an hour later, I noticed another guy walking his bike up, already near the top. As I hit the grade, I kept downshifting until I was in low gear, but the bike kept going (along with some pedal power of course). I was able to ride up the entire hill (on the seat) just as the other guy got to the top. He was blown away (as was I)!"
"Great fun! Riding an Optibike is just something you have to experience to believe!”

“Just wanted to express my thanks re the bike, it is truly awesome to get on this machine. While I’m still getting used to the way it rides, the power and suspension are noticeably better (than my other bike) as I averaged 27 mph uphill to Breckenridge [CO] on my ride in this morning. In addition to the improved performance, the look of this bike is fantastic… everywhere I go people are enthralled and I have been stopped and questioned repeatedly about it.”
For all you engineers who want to see some “real” data, this email came in from Patrick S.:
“Hey Guys. Great Bike! Just got back from my real first maiden voyage. As an engineer I'm into data. Pretty much testing my commute, and all the numbers match up to the projections based on your website data. I've attached some Garmin data to this mail as it kind of shows the capabilities of the bike. Basic first ride data: =============================== 22.3 Miles Total Ascent 1253 Don't pay attention to the Cadence in this graph as I didn't hook up the Garmin Cadence. In general I kept the cadence at about 90-95. 1 hour and 6 minutes Average speed 20.6 MPH at an average Heart Rate of 150BPM Max Speed 36 MPH Based on when the LED Charge indicator hit the 40-55% range I'm guessing 40% battery left. Much fun.....Thanks,"
“Hey guys, Just to let you guys know I'm not one of those wussies that never gets off asphault! This shot was taken yesterday 6:20am w/ Turtle Head peak in background (~6500' elevation) ... the Vegas valley floor is ~2300' and I'm @ ~4300' here. The OB-1 performs exceptionally well in the dirt ... probably faster uphill than down! due to my limited (but improving) skillset!”
